Halloween

Kali decided to be a witch this year and had so much fun Halloween night.

Sadie, our Little Red Riding Hood, had just as much fun. This was the first year that we didn't have anything to do Halloween night. So the girls actually got to go trick or treating in our neighborhood and then came home to hand out candy and watch The Wizard of Oz while eating popcorn.

The popcorn was Ashlyn's favorite part. She sat quietly watching the movie with a bowl of popcorn in front of her, slowly munching it away.

Pumpkin Carving

Pumpkin carving was so much more enjoyable this year. I love carving pumpkins and each year I look forward to doing it with the girls. But then it turns out to be much more of a task and headache than it's worth. However, this year was different.

Both Kali and Sadie were able to join in on the majority of the carving and gutting. Kali even carved an entire pumpkin on her own. It looked like an alien, but it made both her and I very excited for next year.

Ashlyn spent most of her time getting into mischief and making messes, but she too seemed to be enjoying herself.

Here's the finised product. So much fun!

Trick or Treating at Work

Every year the girls look forward to trick or treating at Daddy's work. This year was no different other than Ashlyn being able to join in on the fun. She was so funny. When she discovered that people were giving her candy, she ran from station to station saying, "kaykoo, kaykoo, kaykoo" which means "thank you, thank you, thank you". After the girls finished, they decorated Josh's whiteboard and spun in his chair. That ended up being almost as much fun as the trick or treating.

Halloween Dance

We also enrolled Sadie in dance this year and she is a natural (as long as she's not day dreaming). Her teacher has commented several times on how well she's doing. Her first recital turned out very cute.

Halloween Parade

Sadie had her Halloween parade at preschool today. All the costumes were so cute, but I must admit that the cute little girl dressed up as Little Red Riding Hood was my favorite. She had so much fun that she couldn't wait to tell me about her funnest day ever at preschool. She got candy and toys from classmates. She got to frost and eat a ghost cookie. She made a spider with a jack-o-lantern head. She got to practice her Halloween poem. And she got to bring home a Halloween pencil with a haunted house eraser on it. Oh the joy of seeing life through the eyes of a four-year-old.

Halloween Dance

We put Kali in dance this year and tonight was her first recital. She's very aware that most of the other girls in her class have taken dance before, but I think she's doing excellent. The Halloween dance was super cute. This video begins a few seconds after the dance started because the girls near her kept bumping into her. But the smile on her face after the dance is over tells me that she's enjoying herself.

Adventures in Clay

Kali's second round of discovery was with clay. They got to make and glaze a pinch pot, a jack-o-lantern, and some sea creatures. Then today they had a celebration of learning where they presented what they made, told about the process and shared what they learned with family and other students in the school. It's fun to see how much she's learning and how well she does at school.

As a side note, the other girl in this picture is her best friend from school, Alyssa. They happened to get paired up on the first day of kindergarten and have been inseparable ever since. I couldn't have picked a better friend for her. Alyssa is a very good and kind child and she and Kali always have fun together.

Number Four

We're expecting again and today was the ultrasound. The results are in and we are continuing the Bohman family tradition. We're sticking to one gender. It's a GIRL!!! Both Kali and Sadie have been telling us for weeks that they really want a brother. We've had several talks with them about the possibility of having a girl and have reminded them that Ashy was and is so much fun that they should be excited to have another baby sister. I was a little nervous to tell them it was a girl for fear of their reactions. We told Kali first. She had the biggest smile on her face and it returns every time she talks about having a new baby sister. She hasn't said a single word about wishing it were a boy. The first thing Sadie asked me when I walked in the door was, "What one is it?" I asked her what she thought and she guessed a boy. I told her that it was a girl and she said, "Ohhhh, I just want them to pull it out today" (in a very longing voice). She too hasn't mentioned a single thing about wishing it were a boy. So it looks like were a house full of smiles and a house full of girls.

Invisible Friends

Over the last six months or so, Kali and Sadie have invented some friends. They started out with just Amy and Justin. Amy was Kali's friend and Justin was Sadie's. Then they started talking about George and Brian (Sadie's). Now they have included Pumpkin (Kali's) and Vanessa and Jim (Sadie's). I think they were bored of just having each other to play with so they came up with these other people that have unique personalities. This way they feel like they have more friends to play with. They know that they're not real, but I'm not allowed to call them "imaginary friends". Maybe I need to allow my children to have more playdates.

The Oquirrh Mountain Temple

Sadie and Kali both have parts in their upcoming primary program that refer to the temple. Sadie's says, "I am  thankful for the Oquirrh Mountain Temple that it's so close to my home." When I started helping her learn her part, I asked if she remembered the Oquirrh Mountain Temple (we had a family home evening there about a year ago). Well, she couldn't remember it so we decided that we needed to have another family home evening lesson there.

This time we did a question / answer session on our drive there to help the girls better understand the purpose of the temple and what we do there. When we got there, Josh showed them a slide show of the three other temples you can see from the Oquirrh Mountain Temple grounds and pointed them out.  He also showed the St. George temple because we've been there several times. We finished the evening off with scriptures and hot chocolate. It was super fun, one of my favorite family home evenings.

Worms

For some reason, my girls love worms. I'm not exactly sure where they acquired this love from because I could care less to touch them, but I must admit that it's nice they don't scream every time they see one. They like worms so much that when it stops raining, they are in heaven. They like trying to find the smallest ones and the chubbiest ones and the grandpa ones, etc. Then they create homes and villages made of rocks and leaves and grass and dirt and flowers and whatever else they can find for them. Sadie often asks to bring them inside, but I always reject that petition.

Ledgemere

We missed our annual trip up to Ledgemere last year and were determined to get there this year. It's a little late in the season to go up, but we lucked out with the weather and had a fabulous time. It seems with the good weather, everyone else had the same idea because it was pretty packed. But the other sites cleared out during the fifteen minutes of strong winds and light rain. We thankfully stayed and the rough weather cleared out. We were able to roast hot dogs and marshmallows and sing some primary songs and listen to a small family home evening lesson. Kali and Sadie's favorite part had to have been the chance to climb and explore a little which made them filthy. I wish I had taken a picture of the two of them together. Between dirty finger stripes on Kali's face to Sadie's face covered in dirt, it was quite the sight.
